History
Establishment and Evolution
Koperasi Serbausaha Makmur Berhad (KOSMA) traces its roots back to its establishment on 4th December 1967. Initially operating under the Cooperative Ordinance of 1948, which was later replaced by the Cooperative Act of 1993, KOSMA has evolved significantly over the years. Originally known as the “Syarikat Berkerjasama-sama Ladang Kelapa Sawit Pegawai-pegawai Kerajaan Negeri Pahang Berhad,” it underwent several name changes to reflect its expanding scope and objectives. On 4th October 1986, it was renamed Koperasi KOSMA Berhad, and on 28th February 1996, it adopted its current name, Koperasi Serbausaha Makmur Berhad.
Core Operations
KOSMA primarily engages in palm oil plantation and hotel management. These sectors play a pivotal role in driving the cooperative’s economic activities and fulfilling its mission outlined in its by-laws, known as the “Undang-undang Kecil KOSMA” Part II No 6. The core purpose of KOSMA, as stated in its by-laws, is “to alleviate the economic status of its members through the principles of cooperatives.”
Date of Registration and Registration Number
KOSMA was officially registered under the Cooperative Act on 4th December 1967, with registration number 4361. Since its inception, it has remained committed to fostering economic empowerment among its members and contributing to the socio-economic development of its community.
Development of Oil Palm Plantations
Establishment History
Koperasi Serbausaha Makmur Berhad (KOSMA) commenced its primary activities in the development and cultivation of oil palm plantations since its inception. On November 2, 1966, the Pahang State Government’s Exco meeting approved an allocation of approximately 55,000 acres in Mukim Keratong, District of Rompin, Pahang Darul Makmur for this purpose.
Development Focus
The approved area was subject to specific conditions, namely, to be planted with oil palm, with the aim of developing the land and selling it to KOSMA members as Unit Ladang investments. Developing oil palm plantations became KOSMA’s primary focus in enhancing economic potential and providing investment opportunities for its members.
