The History

Formation and Objectives

Koperasi Shamelin Berhad (KSB), better known as SHAMELIN, is a registered cooperative established on April 13, 1971, with the aim of enhancing the economic interests of its members in accordance with cooperative principles.

Early Development

As of December 2012, Koperasi KSB had 22,424 members with accumulated shares totaling RM9,835,153.55.

Since its inception, Koperasi KSB has experienced some bitter experiences in trying to find and consolidate economic activities that can realize the purpose of its establishment.

Major Business Ventures

Among the most prominent business endeavors in the 1970s was the attempt to establish a nationwide chain of grocery stores, which met with limited success.

In the early 1980s, Koperasi KSB managed to acquire a 135-acre plot of land in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, intended for development as a park containing residential, commercial, and manufacturing buildings, known as Taman Shamelin Perkasa. The success in acquiring this land provided the opportunity to leap far into the mainstream of the country’s economic activities at that time.

Challenges and Failures

In the early stages, the Koperasi Shamelin Berhad (KSB) successfully ran the business of developing this property, but in the mid-1980s, it began to face problems, leading to the abandonment of the development project.

As a result, other businesses it ventured into also faced challenges and were on the verge of bankruptcy.

  • Academic excellence awards in examinations such as PT3, SPM, SMA, STPM, STAM, Matriculation, and Foundation Program.

Death Benefit Fund (Tabung Khairat Kematian)

The Death Benefit Fund Scheme by Koperasi Shamelin Berhad (KSB) is designed to provide protection and financial assistance to members or their heirs in the unfortunate event of the member’s demise. This scheme ensures that members and their families receive support during challenging times, helping to ease the financial burden associated with the loss of a loved one.
